A fresh coat of paint is one of the easiest, most cost-effective ways of improving the appearance of your home. Painting the exterior of your home will cause it to look much cleaner and newer. The actual amount of time you should take before repainting your home depends on multiple factors. The climate, the material of your home, and the quality of the previous paint job will all impact how often you will need to paint a home’s exterior.

Climate

A home that is exposed to harsh elements will likely need to be painted more frequently. This includes houses in hot climates or those exposed to harsh winters. Houses in humid environments will also require painting more frequently.

Material

The material of your home will determine how often the building will need a new paint job. Wood siding will typically need a new paint job every 3-7 years. It can also, however, be stained. It will usually require this treatment every 4 years. Aluminum siding will require a new coat of paint around 5 years. Stucco siding generally needs to be repainted every 5 or 6 years. Brick exteriors don’t necessarily need to be painted and can last for years with simple cleaning. However, if you decide to paint the exterior of your brick home, the paint job typically lasts 15-20 years.

Previous Paint Job

A high-quality paint job will last longer than one that has been hasty or insufficiently accomplished. Once the paint begins to show signs of cracking and chipping, you should consider obtaining a new paint job for the exterior. It will then look much nicer and newer.
